October Meeting Recap

Scrappy Sew-In

What’s your favorite way to use fabric scraps? Guild members brought their sewing machines to our October meeting and worked on a variety of scrappy projects. Rope bowls, pin cushions, project bags, eyeglasses cases and more went under the needle, and we had a great time socializing during the extended meeting.

If you have a favorite scrap-busting project, let us know in the comment section!

2019 Leadership Team

It was a unanimous vote as guild members enthusiastically approved the slate of officers put forward to oversee next year’s activities. Say hello to your 2019 board of directors:

  • President: Karen Downer

  • Past President: Kelly Spell

  • Secretary: Sara Bradshaw

  • Treasurer: Beverly Herron

  • Membership: Sherry Leary and Ann Hurley

  • Communications: Leslie Wade

This group will work with the outgoing 2018 leadership team to set the guild’s 2019 calendar.

If you have any ideas for programs, workshops or special events the guild should consider for next year, please bring them to our annual brainstorming/planning meeting Nov. 10.

QuiltCon Charity Quilt Progress

Construction of the quilt top is underway! Thanks to everyone who volunteered to sew a strip set. Audrey, Jean, Kelly and Mary started piecing the top together last week, and our large-scale, modern basket is coming along nicely.

Handcrafted Happy Hour

Mark your calendars! Our second after-hours event is just around the corner.

Join us for Handcrafted Happy Hour Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 4-7 p.m. at Stone Cup Cafe. You’re invited to come and go as you please as we work on individual projects alongside one another.

All fiber artists are welcome to attend, whether you quilt, knit, crochet, weave, embroider, create macramé, design clothing, do needlework, etc. This is great opportunity to get better acquainted with your ChattMQG guild mates, and to meet other artists working with various fiber-related mediums in the Chattanooga area.

Stone Cup serves coffee, beer and snacks, and you’re welcome to bring your own wine for a $5 cork fee. Handcrafted Happy Hour is co-sponsored by ChattMQG and the Association for Visual Arts.
